Department of Veterans Affairs Aid and Attendance Benefits
Aid and Attendance* is a Veterans Administration program
whereby veterans of the US Military may be eligible to receive benefits
to assist with
the costs associated with Assisted Living, Nursing Homes or In-Home Care.
The veteran must have served a minimum of 90 days in the military during
an official time of war, have received an honorable discharge and have
cash assets of less than $80,000 (excluding residence).
These benefits may be available for the veteran, spouse of a veteran
or widowed spouse of a veteran. The beneficiary must be a resident of
an assisted living community or nursing home or be permanently housebound.
Possible benefits, of course, are determined by the VA but may be $1470
per month for the veteran, $943 for a widowed spouse or $1743 for the
veteran and spouse. This benefit is tax-free and is in addition to Social
Security.
